BIG ISLAND (KHNL) - Big Island police detectives continue their investigation into a shooting in Kau.
Police say a 23-year-old female was found alive on Friday in a remote forest area by workers from the Department of Water Supply.
According to police, the Kurtistown woman was reportedly abducted from her home by three people about a week ago. Police believe she was beaten, kidnapped, and taken to a remote area in Waiohinu, where she was shot multiple times.
After being found, the victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to serious.
Detectives are considering this an attempted murder case and believe the suspect and victim know each other.
