KAPOLEI (KHNL) - Its wet, wild, and a whole lot of fun, but according to EJ Mitsui, flowboarding and surfing are as different as two sets of waves.
"No its nothing like surfing," he said, "In surfing you can put more weight on your front to do maneuvers and stuff, people tell me its more like snow boarding."
The sport of flowboarding started 16-years ago, allowing aspiring beach bums living far from the ocean, an chance to rip up the surf.
The machine is designed to simulate a never ending wave, perfectly designed to tear into.
"I surf like everyday out there," EJ said, "Then I come here when the park's open so I get good practice."
Over the years, the sport has surged across the United States.
On Saturday, the Wave House Flow Tour rolled into the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, as part of its 23-city nationwide competition, so its no surprise EJ took tops in the stand-up division.
