H-1 Accident Left One Person in Critical Condition, Another in Serious Conditon

PEARL CITY (KHNL) - A major overnight accident left one woman in critical condition and another in serious condition.

The accident happened at about 1:00 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway near the Waimalu exit.

The two women had gotten into a previous crash and were out of their cars when they were hit by a third car.

The wreck forced officers to shut down the westbound and zipper lanes for nearly six hours.

Paramedics took the two women and a child to the Queen's Medical Center.

One resident who heard the crash said the area is dangerous.

"Even before they made this new, other lane, its always been a critical area," said Dianne Okudara. "I guess because of the merge and I''m really concerned. In fact, today after I heard what happened last night I was really going to so some sort of research and get something done about it."

Freeway lanes reopened around 7 o'clock a.m.

Police say speed was a factor.  It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
