Crews Battle Fires on Maui

(KHNL) - Fire fighters on Maui are fighting a fire burning within the Kula Forest Reserve.

It was first reported about 2:30 PM Thursday.

An estimated three acres have burned. No structures are threatened.

But the Department of Land and Natural Resources still evacuated four people who were staying at the Polipoli Park cabin.

And no camping permits were issued for Thursday or Friday.

There is another brush fire on Maui burning above the Lahaina Recreation Center.

A Maui county spokesperson says the fire began shortly after 5:30 pm on a mountain side.

She says it is not burning near Honoapi'ilani Highway and the flames are not threatening any structures at this time.
