Highway Re-opened, West Maui Phone Lines Cut by Fire

(KHNL) - Maui County officials on Thursday night say they've opened Honoapiilani Highway. It was closed for much of Thursday because of a brush fire near Olowalu.

Also on Thursday night - police say land-line phone service is down in West Maui.

Update at 12:30AM Friday : Maui Officials say that The 911 emergency call system for the Lahaina area has been temporarily restored.   Residents of the Lahaina area can now make 911 emergency calls, which temporarily will be answered by the Lahaina patrol district.   All other calls that are for non-emergency purposes can be made to the Lahaina police station, at 661-4441.

Residents are advised to use cell phones or to go to the Lahaina police station, where radio communications have been restored.
