MAKAKILO (KHNL) -- Tuesday night's fire on Akaula Place serves as a reminder about how we should all be prepared in the event of an emergency.
Fire officials say each home should be equipped with a smoke detector, and each family should have an evacuation plan. They say it's also important for household items to be stored properly.
"We strongly suggest that you keep the area near the exits wide open and clear so that in the event of a fire, when it becomes a panic situation, you need to be able to move quickly to the exits and get out safely," Capt. Frank Johnson, Honolulu Fire Department, said.
