Fire Crews Put Out Brush Fire in Kihei

KIHEI, Maui (KHNL) - A brush fire that was reported at 3:08 PM Monday was brought under control shortly before 5:00 PM by fire crews. The fire burned an estimated five acres on vacant land above Kaiwahine Street and Kaihoi Street in Kihei.

One home on Kaihoi Street was evacuated when the fire reached close to fifty feet of the home. No injuries were reported. Maui Fire Department's Air One helicopter was dispatched to assist the seven fire units that responded to the fire.

County officials also praised construction firm Goodfellow Brothers, who brought in heavy equipment to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
