Three Hawaii-based Soldiers Killed in Iraq

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Three Hawaii-based soldiers died in Iraq last week when a bomb exploded near their vehicle.

The deaths of one of the soldiers,  21-year-old Val John Borm of Sidney, Nebraska had been reported earlier by his family.

24-year-old Sergeant Derek Roberts of Gold River, California and 26-year-old Specialist Farid Elazzouzi of Paterson, New Jersey were also killed. They died Thursday in Kirkuk.

The soldiers were assigned to the Second Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, Third Brigade Infantry Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks

They were killed the same week as two other Schofield soldiers in Iraq.  First Lieutenant Frank Walkup died Saturday after a bomb exploded near him and Private First Class Casey Carriker died last Wednesday of non-combat injuries.
