Soldier Receives "Spirit of the Warrior" Award

FORT SHAFTER (KHNL) - One of Hawaii's most revered soldiers received the U.S. Army's O Ke Koa "Spirit of the Warrior" Community Service Award.

William Paty was honored during an inaugural awards ceremony June 16 at Fort Shafter.

"The selfless and enduring patriotism, commitment and honor of Bill Paty has indeed left a legacy recognizable now and certainly recognizable later for all who serve our community, the State of Hawaii, the U.S. Army and our great nation," said Lt. General John Brown.

The award will be presented annually to recognize and honor the legacies of Hawaii residents who have made significant contributions that have strengthened the Army's partnership with the state and the local communities.

More than 80 members of Paty's family, friends, military and community leaders attended the ceremony.
