HONOLULU (KHNL) - He died while trying to help; now friends and family get a final chance to say their good-byes to a Honolulu police officer who died in the line of duty.
Funeral services for Sergeant Harry Coelho, Jr. were held Saturday afternoon at Borthwick Mortuary.
He died of a heart attack nearly a month ago while trying to break up a fight at Haleiwa Beach Park.
And while those who knew him were shocked of his sudden death, they talked of how he touched the lives of those around him.
"Harry was one of the kindest officers I've ever met in my career. The very first time I met him -- probably had about a year in the Department -- came up to me, introduced himself, and just the embrace. I was just kind of surprised just to meet somebody like that early into my career," says Officer Fabian Mata, friend/co-worker.
Sergeant Coelho was with the Honolulu Police Department for 21 years, and leaves behind a wife, a son, and a daughter.
