Governor Lingle Releases $5M to Improve Kona Airport

HONOLULU (KHNL) - Governor Linda Lingle has released $5,000,000 for upgrades to Kona International Airport.

Four million dollars of the funds will be used to design a centralized security check point, a new air-conditioned, second-floor passengers boarding area and passenger waiting rooms, a new loading bridge system for passengers relocating to the Ellison S. Onizuka Space center, electrical upgrades and a food court.

"Our Administration remains committed to improving airports to accommodate our steady stream of passengers," said Governor Lingle. "Improvments such as the centralized security check point and the new air conditioned holding rooms are important projecs for Hawaii travelers."

The remaining $1,000,000 will be used to construct an additional 100 parking spaces at the airport's Road N parking lot and a pedestrian path to the terminals from the parking lot.
