HONOLULU (KHNL) - Many people spent the Memorial Day Holiday at Ala Moana Beach Park, which is always a popular spot for friends and family to gather.
For one Leeward Oahu family, it's an ideal place for a reunion.
"So I kinda got all the children, friends, close to him, to meet here, just to celebrate, because we haven't seen each other for about 10 years," said John Hopkins, Waianae resident.
Like many others, they barbecued, ate and talked story.
"Having the most fun with them," said 8-year-old Jayden Oliveira.
Beachgoers also took advantage of the weather, playing sports and exercising. They also enjoyed the ocean. For Bruce Wong, spending the day at the beach, was a no-brainer.
"I just grew up with surfing since I was 8, so it's something I'm passionate about," said Bruce Wong, surfer.
Many large groups, like the one from Grace Bible Church, gathered at this hotspot. But some came here for a little peace.
"My dad just passed away couple months ago and he was a veteran, actually I'm here, not to think about it," said Pam Palmer.
