KAPOLEI (KHNL) - On Tuesday night, the public had a chance to voice their opinions regarding the future of the Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant.

More than 100 people turned out to express their concerns at the Kapolei Middle School cafeteria. They believe the cost to upgrade the facility is too expensive.  The Environmental Protection Agency says it would cost roughly $400 million to improve the wastewater treatment plant.

"Our mission is to protect human health and the environment. There's no financial gain, there's no incentive for us as we move forward," says Wayne Natri, Environmental Protection Agency.

The Environmental Protection Agency says the facility needs to be upgraded for the benefit of the community.

If you were not able attend Tuesday night's meeting, you have until the end of August to turn in your comments to the EPA.
