WAIKIKI (KHNL) - May Day is Lei Day here in Hawaii and Waikiki was abuzz Tuesday night with a Lei Day concert.

The May Day concert started at 7:30 Tuesday evening with the Brothers Cazimero performing many of their classics they made famous over the years. For many island people, the May Day concert is an event they cannot live without.

Some people waited in line at the front gate of the Waikiki Shell from as early as two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and one of the best places to grab a seat is on the lawn where people are enjoying drinks, food and, of course, each other's company.

Backstage, Robert Cazimero grants us a one-on-one interview before the show gets started.

"There's a spirit about tonight's performance that's calling everybody, even those that can't be seen, to be a part of this thing and to celebrate. And when it's done we sing May Day on last time, turn off the lights and party in the back of the shed," says Robert Cazimero.

The concert went well into the night, and welcomed special guest: Kamehameha Schools Concert Glee Choir.

Robert Cazimero assures us there will be a concert next year, he's just not sure of the time and date.
