Re-Nomination of DLNR Head Rejected

By Paul Drewes

HONOLULU (KHNL)- After losing ground in yesterday's confirmation hearing process, the head of the State's Department of Land and Natural Resources went before the full senate today.

Peter Young is up for another four year term, but holding onto his job proved to be too difficult.

After days of scruntiny and criticism the senate committee voted against young 15 to 8 in his confirmation.

His critics have complained of mismangement within his department as well as a lack of accountability.

But young had his supporters -- from members of the public, to the Governor herself.

Young did receive "some" support in the senate.

But after being voted against in committee, Young's support was outnumbered nearly "two to one" today, and so he will not be re-confirmed.

But will have a hand in picking his successor.
