442nd/100th Battalion Change of Command

Lieutenant Colonel Mike Peeters Lieutenant Colonel Mike Peeters

HONOLULU (KHNL) - A combat veteran will be heading up the Army Reserve's only infantry unit. A change of command ceremony was held today for the 442nd/100th Batallion to welcome in Lieutenant Colonel Mike Peeters. The 44-year old served twice in Iraq.

Peeters says he feels honored by the promotion, and that it completes a circle for the battalion. "During World War II, they trained in Wisconsin, and I'm originally from Wisconsin, so I feel a strong kindred spirit here, with many of the veterans that trained where I'm originally from. My heart's in Hawaii. It's a wonderful unit to be part of and I'm absolutely honored to be a part of it."

Peeters says the 100th battalion will spend its required 15 days of active duty at Schofield Barracks in June, focusing on tactical operations. In August, unit members will participate in exercises in Malaysia and Singapore.
