WAIPAHU (KHNL) - Hawaii's Filipino veterans came together Sunday to be recognized for their service in World War II. Dozens of veterans and their families gathered at the Filipino Community Center to mark the 65th anniversary of the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. Veterans received medals for their service in World War II and took time to honor their fallen brothers.

Eddie Agas of the Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee said, ""Today we turn back the pages of history so that we, our children, and those after them will understand and remember the sacrifices of their grandfathers."

Kristie Kenney, US Ambassador to the Philippines, added these were, "Men and women whose lives, whose heroism, whose courage was sacrificed so that we could all live in a peaceful world today."

Veterans received Philippines Liberation Medals for their service in the war. They also got the chance to watch a documentary on the Battle of Bataan and Corregidor against Japanese forces.
