HONOLULU (KHNL) - The help of a good lawyer can run you about 150, to 400 dollars... an hour.
It's not cheap.
But, there is free, professional legal help available to all of us, once a week.
And it's just a phone call away.
Attorneys meet at this bishop street office every Wednesday night, to man the phones from 6-to-7.
''I would say we get about 500 calls a year," says attorney Nicole Shimamoto of the Hawaii State Bar Association. "So, we're helping out 500 individuals who would not have had access to that type of service, otherwise."
All categories are covered; adoption, divorce, personal damages.
Quality help, free of charge.
''This is an important part about what the Bar does," says Hawaii State Bar Association Exective Director, Lyn Flanigan.
"The lawyers in this town consider this to be a profession and part of that profession is giving back to the community, whether it's pro bono work on actual cases, or volunteer work in the schools, or in the community. And this is a standing project."
Added Shimamoto, ‘'It's a great opportunity for the attorneys to reach out to the community and give back to those who maybe don't have the same opportunity to receive expensive legal services."
Helping to prove, justice isn't "just" for the rich.
