HONOLULU (KHNL) - University of Hawaii Warrior football coach June Jones announced Thursday the hiring of Greg McMackin as defensive coordinator, filling the vacancy left by Jerry Glanville.  McMackin returns to the UH campus after serving as the Warrior's defensive coordinator in 1999.

"I am excited to be reunited with Greg as we had a great time in 1999," Jones said.  "We were 109th in total defense when he came in, and finished 35th in the nation in total defense after one season."

McMackin served as defensive coordinator under Jones in 1999 and returns to Warriors after a three-year stint at Texas Tech and two-year stay with the San Francisco 49ers.

"It's an exciting feeling for me to be back in Hawaii," said McMackin.  "June has done a great job with this program and I am fortunate to be able to come back to a place where I never wanted to leave."

McMackin helped the Warriors to a WAC co-Championship in 1999.
