Cold Case Murder Suspect Indicted

HONOLULU (KHNL) -- After being stalled for eight years, a case involving a woman who was brutally attacked and left to die in Waipio marches forward.

Wednesday, an Oahu grand jury indicted 48-year-old Darnell Griffin on murder and sex assault charges. He's accused of raping and strangling 20-year-old Evelyn Luka.

Luka was found unconscious and severely beaten along the H-2 Freeway near Ka Uka Boulevard in September 1999.

Investigators say DNA evidence points to Griffin, who's already a convicted murderer. He's now being held without bail.
