Autopsy Results of Catamaran Accident Victim Released

MAUI (KHNL) - The man killed during a whale watching cruise off Maui died from a massive blow to his head.

48-year old Hal Pulfer died Sunday while on the Kiele-Five Catamaran.

The mast snapped during the cruise off Kahana Beach, killing Pulfer and injuring another couple from Kauai.

They've been identified as Mike Keppel and his wife, Karrie Ross.

They were on Maui celebrating Keppels 57th birthday.

He was treated and released from the hospital with a broken nose.

Ross remains in intensive care, with head injuries and a broken back, ribs, and collarbone.

Family members tell us she is alert and speaking, and that the two are very fortunate to be alive.
