HONOLULU (KHNL) - The Honolulu Brass Quintet will perform music from the Renaissance to Broadway with a Prelude and Fugue by J.S. Bach and selections from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, along with music from 1800s Russia and 1500s England.
The Honolulu Brass Quintet (Mark Schubert and Kenneth Hafner, trumpets; Wade Butin, horn; William Zehfuss, trombone; and David Saltzman, tuba) are Honolulu Symphony musicians and teach many of Hawaii's young brass players.
In its 24th season, Chamber Music Hawaii features three ensembles - the Galliard String Quartet, Honolulu Brass Quintet and Spring Wind Quintet, all Honolulu Symphony musicians. Each ensemble presents two programs during the concert series along with educational performances in Hawaii schools. The ensembles also collaborate to form a Tresemble for two additional programs that feature a variety of repertoire for mixed instrumentation, which is frequently overlooked in many concert series. Chamber Music Hawaii has appeared throughout Hawaii, mainland U.S.A., Europe and Asia.
