(KHNL) - After 34 years, owner Paul Masuoka of Masu's Restaurant in Kalihi can't understand why his restaurant had become so popular.
Some say it's because the portions of food are big and the prices are reasonable. Longtime customer Peter Valenti says "it's the size of the plate," which he has never been able to finish the whole way through.
Bessie Baguyo attributes Masu's success in part to the friendly staff, "Finding a new place to eat with the same local flare is becoming harder to find."
George Furtado of Kapolei says "small mom and pop plate lunch places are beginning to disappear and that soon you will see nothing but Pizza Huts next door."
