HONOLULU (KHNL)- A security breach at Hawaiian Electric Company, as someone enters a restricted area and steals a computer.

It happened at the HECO facility on South King Street near Ward Avenue. Investigators say a 20-year-old security guard used a pass key to enter an unauthorized area, and grabbed a laptop computer.

Police arrested Stephen Adams on suspicion of theft and computer damage.

HECO says the incident did not compromise customer security.

"There was no customer sensitive information on the computer," Janet Crawford, Hawaiian Electric Company, said. "The laptop was a brand new laptop. It had not been placed into service yet."

Detectives say Adams erased some information off the hard drive. The suspect is free while police continue to investigate.
