WAIPAHU (KHNL) - A dog bites a Waipahu boy in the face, sending him to the hospital. It happened Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Kunia Park in Waipahu. The culprit is B.J., a 3-year-old cocker spaniel. His owner said he dug underneath the backyard fence, and escaped. B.J. ended up a few blocks down the street at the park. A witness said when a school bus let out a bunch of kids, a little boy walked up to the dog.

"The little boy knelt down and my daughter heard the dog growl, and told him, 'No, no. Back up.' But before he could get back, the dog reached up and grabbed his face, and he was just pouring blood and it scared me," said Terry White, a Waipahu resident.

Paramedics took the 7-year-old boy to Hawaii Medical Center West. B.J.'s owner, who did not want to go on camera, said she is concerned about the boy. To prevent B.J. from escaping again, she has tied the dog down in the backyard. The boy was treated and released Tuesday evening.
