KAPOLEI (KHNL) - A clean-up project is keeping one community clean and also helping some students travel to the mainland.

Volunteers at Aloha Aina Day collected all kinds of recyclable items to raise money for Kapolei High School.

Bins filled quickly with refrigerators, soda cans and newspapers, as well as with old computers and donated clothes. Organizers were surprised with the amount they collected.

"Yes. In fact, we already filled one of the blue containers, so this is our second and third one going on. The traffic has been going constantly, so I appreciate the community coming out," says Joanne Abrazado, Kapolei High School.

Different companies pay the school for the recyclables collected.

Some of the money raised will go to pay for students to participate in a national video competition in California next month.
