Mortar Shell Incident at Manoa Fire Station Ends Safely

MANOA (KHNL) - The Army removed a suspected mortar shell that was lying on the lawn in front of the Manoa Fire Station on East Manoa Road this morning at 10:15 and detonated it safely at Schofield.

The Honolulu Fire Department says a city refuse worker dropped off the mortar at the fire station at 7:25 this morning. Firefighters called police, which evacuated the fire station, the Bank of the Orient across the street, Starbucks, and other nearby businesses.

East Manoa Road from Woodlawn to Huapala were closed off for 3 hours.
