(KHNL) - As news of Bronwyn Kugle's arrest spreads, young students of the Kaelepulu Elementary school teacher are struggling to make sense of what's happening.
Its homework time at the Almeida home. For eight year old Tessa, problem solving is a little easier thanks to the work of Bronwyn Kugle. "She helped with multiplication tables and fractions."
At Kaelepulu Elementary, Tessa's brother and sister were also helped in math and reading by Kugle. And give their teacher a favorable grade. "She showed me how to use my finger and a multiplication chart" says Eliza. "She was pretty fun" adds, ten year old DJ.
From parents there are also rave reviews for the teacher who had been at the school for five years. "She seemed nice and caring." says Pam Almeida.
But after hearing about Kugle's arrest, these kids are left struggling to figure out why. And express their disappointment in a teacher they looked up to.
"It makes me feel bad cause she was a fun teacher, its kinda hard to see her go to jail." says DJ.
"I feel bad for her. She was a great teacher , she was good around people." adds Tessa.
Unlike being challenged by math problems, these young students now must learn a new lesson about life, one that they'll need their parents help to truly understand.
"They're young, they don't understand. They don't know its just an accusation until she is prosecuted. Right now, we know police think she's done this and we'll just have to wait and see."
