Punahou Teacher Dies in Diving Accident

HONOLULU (KHNL) - A beloved teacher at Punahou school died on Sunday during a diving accident in waters near Lana'i.

Jeremiah Johnson was escorting a group of Punahou School students aboard the research vessel "Rapture."

One of the ship's lifeguards noticed something was wrong with Johnson immediately after he dove off of the ship.  Rescue divers pulled him from 95 feet of water and brought Johnson to shore.

However, attempts to revive him failed.

School officials say Johnson had been teaching high school biology and environmental science for four years.
