PEARL CITY (KHNL) - A Wahiawa man is locked up at HPD's main cellblock, accused of stealing parts of a freeway light pole. Police arrested 37-year-old Thomas Simer on suspicion of theft Tuesday.

Officers rushed to the H-1 near the Pearl City on-ramp, after a witness reported seeing a man tampering with a light pole there. Investigators say the officers found pieces of the aluminum pole in Simer's truck.

The suspect reportedly claimed he was a state worker. But police say that proved to be false.

Simer has not been charged.
