Firefight Continues on Maui

MAUI (KHNL) - The State Land Department says heavy rain has helped battle the Kula Forest Reserve fire on Maui.

The fire is 100 percent contained, but the fire is still not under control.

According to the State, the fire has scorched more than 2,000 acres of brush since last Wednesday.

Fortunately, officials say homes in Kula are safe.

Officials say the fire will probably take a few weeks to be fully extinguished.

Access to nearby Poli Poli Park remains closed throughout Monday.

The fire was difficult to contain because heavy pine burns quickly and unpredictable winds fan the flames in different directions.
