HICKAM AFB (KHNL) President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush spent about five minutes shaking hands with members of Hawaii's military before boarding Air Force One to return to Washington DC after wrapping up an eight-day trip to Asia.

Members of the military waited for several hours to get a glimpse of the president and first lady. The crowd consisted of mostly enlisted men and women from all the branches of the military.

The president spent 15 hours in Hawaii on a very brief layover after a trip to Asia. He arrived at around 6:00 PM Monday night, had a brief meeting at the airport with some of Hawaii's top ellected officials, including governor Linda Lingle. He later had dinner with the governor before spending the night.

The president had a busy morning, he left the base by motorcade. There was a slight mishap involving three HPD solo bike officers who apparently lost control on a slick road inside Hickam Air Foce Base. The president then went on to a briefing with some of the top military officers here in the Pacific.
