KAHUKU (KHNL) - Officials from the Kahuku Hospital Tuesday announced they will be shutting the facility down at the end of the year.
There has been talk of the kahuku hospital closing for some time.
The CEO has said the hospital has lost millions in the past 6-years. But doctors, nurses, and staff, were all shocked when the announcement came Tuesday.
In this rural section of Oahu, getting anywhere else takes time. Kahuku hospital provides urgent and emergency medical care, right in the community.
With the impending shutdown, doctors have said lives could be lost without this hospital.
Because when there's a critical accident, heart attack, or medical problem, seconds and minutes count. Time that would be lost going somewhere else.
The hospital has tried to get funding to stay open, and also looked to join bigger hospitals, or cut services to keep its doors open.
