WAIPAHU (KHNL) - The score on a muddy match in Waipahu is a drainage ditch two and the city, zero.
After the second day in a row, attempts were unsuccessful to pull out two backhoes from the bottom of the waterway.
The neighborhood on Paiwai Street is mesmerized. It's for a show that wasn't meant to be. Two backhoes stuck in a ditch. It all started Friday afternoon. City crews were dredging this stream, and the first backhoe sank on the way out.
ClaritaTierra, a Waipahu resident said, "I got home from the store and I just heard the noise. When I came out, wow, the catapiller got stuck in there."
It happened so fast, the driver didn't get a chance to shut off the motor. The workers came back Saturday, with a second backhoe, but it also sank. City crews say they'll be back tomorrow, with more trucks, to try and pull out the stuck backhoes.
On Sunday, crews brought in gravel and another backhoe, to strenghten the hillside in another attempt to pull out the machinery. Unfortunately, that didn't work either.
