KANEOHE (KHNL) - The state says Wednesday's heavy downpours triggered at least four different waste water spills on Oahu. More than 3,000 gallons spilled from the Kaneohe Preliminary Treatment Facility into Kaneohe Bay Wednesday afternoon.
Another 500 gallons spilled out of a sewer manhole near Kaneohe Bay. 900 gallons of untreated waster gushed out of a manhole on Lilipuna Road. Warning signs were posted.
The state has also issued a "brown water advisory" because of the earlier flash flood warnings. They advise everyone to steer clear of murky ocean water because it could be polluted with waste from overflowing sewer manholes and septic systems.
The advisory will remain up for the next several days.
