Nov 1, 2006 02:09 PM

NUUANU PALI (KHNL) - The Pali Highway was closed in both directions at around 10:45 AM Wednesday morning due to a landslide. The landslide is on the town side of the town-bound tunnel. Mud and trees are completely covering the roadway on the town-bound lanes.

According to a Department of Transportation official, the road will be closed at least into the late evening hours. Road crews are on the scene at this moment. Stay with KHNL.com for more information as it develops.

Police have closed off the highway at Waokanaka Drive on the town side of the Pali tunnels and are turning traffic around. Pali Highway is closed at Castle Junction (Kamehameha Highway) on the Kailua side of the tunnels.

Heavy rains over the past 24 hours have led to very poor driving conditions on the windward side of Oahu. The National Weather service has issued a flash flood warning for Oahu that lasts until 4:15 PM.
