WAIKIKI (KHNL)- Jaws, this isn't. A movie being screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival urges people to save the sharks.
This documentary is called "Sharkwater." It started as a plea to get people to appreciate sharks for their beauty and power- instead of simply fearing them and wanting to kill them. Along the way, it turned into a soap opera, with major drama and unexpected plot twists.
Director Rob Stewart says he's thrilled to show it in Hawaii. "I think it's terrific to be at the Hawaii International Film Festival. It seems to be attracting more international attention. To be able to screen on the beach is phenomenal. They've got a great venue. Everyone would like to come here for a film festival."
Shark water makes its Hawaii debut tomorrow night at 7 at Waikiki Beach.
