Power Being Restored On Oahu

HONOLULU (KHNL) Hawaiian Electric Company reports it has restored power to most customers on Oahu. Most of the island was without power from around 7:10 AM Sunday morning until after sunset Sunday night. Power began to be gradually restored on Oahu late Sunday night.

As of 3:00 AM Monday, power remained out in a few parts of Oahu, but HECO says that most all customers are back online.

HECO says the power failure occurred when earthquakes knocked generators at the downtown and Kahe plants offline. The company says it is being cautious so they don't overload the system and cause another outage.

All of Maui Electric Company's customers had their power restored by Sunday afternoon.

About 99 percent of Big Island customers had power restored Sunday night.
