H3 Tunnels Renamed Again

HALAWA (KHNL) - For two nights next week the state will be closing the H-3 tunnels for a special project. It's changing the name of the H-3 tunnels again. Signs will go up for the Tetsuo Harano Tunnel. He spent 52 years as a highways administrator, and pushed to get the H-3 tunnels built.

The H3 will be closed in the Kaneohe bound direction on Tuesday from 7 at night to 4 in the morning. It'll be closed at the same time in the town bound direction on Wednesday.

State transportation employee Clude Morita says, "We're thrilled the state government would honor a state employee like Tets Harano who put so many years of his life into the highway system."

The name used to read John A. Burns tunnels, He was the first elected governor for the state of Hawaii.
