State Says Oahu Dams Safe

If you live near a dam or reservoir on Oahu you can breathe a little easier.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources completed surveys of 16 dams and reservoirs on Oahu. According to the reports, none pose an immediate safety hazard.

State crews did recommend immediate repairs to one structure, the Wahiawa Dam which was deemed safe.

The state started the inspections following the failure of the Kaloko Dam in March. Seven people were killed when the Kaloko Dam burst on March 14.
