U.S.S. Hawaii Takes First Swim

CONNECTICUT (KHNL)- There's a bit of aloha in the US Navy today.

This video is from a government website. It's of the USS Hawai`i, the Navy's newest nuclear attack submarine.

Hawaii's senior senator Dan Inouye gave a speech before Governor Linda Lingle christened the vessel.

One of Hawaii's congressional candidates also presented the crew with a koa paddle.

Quentin Kawananakoa told us by phone from Connecticut, "We hope it'll be a memento for him to stay the course and always bring his crew back to safe harbor in Hawaii."

The sub is expected to be commissioned in April or May 2007.
