(KHNL) - The Department of Defense announced today the 2,500th member of the U.S. Armed forces killed since the war began in Iraq is a Kaneohe Marine.
Corporal Michael Estrella died Wednesday, just three months into his deployment.
He was reportedly attacked by small arms fire while patrolling in the Al Anbar province in Iraq.
The 20-year-old field operator from Hemet, California, was assigned to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay.
Estrella is survived by his mother and father.
