KAHALUU, Oahu - (KHNL) A violent crash on the windward side of Oahu shut down Kamehameha Highway and backed up traffic for hours. The crash involved a sports utility vehicle, a tour bus and a home.

The driver of the SUV is dead. The driver of the bus is under arrest. And a woman who lives inside the home says she is lucky to be alive.

A tow truck hauled away what was left of a brand new sports utility vehicle. It was reduced to a mangled hunk of metal after colliding with a Roberts Hawaii tour bus on Kamehameha Highway just north of Kahaluu near Senator Fong's Plantation.

According to police and witnesses the tour bus was seen drifting into on-coming traffic. It ultimately came to a stop after smashing into Rosita Pinkerton s home.

"I decided to go the back room, the bedroom over there in the back" said Pinkerton.

Pinkerton was alone and reading when she heard the initial collision, followed by a second crash.

"Suddenly, boom! It hit the house and shook the building. I got so scared. There were some  pieces of the wall that hit my face, so I got up and ran to the door"

Still in shock from what happened Monday afternoon, Pinkerton showed KHNL News 8 the damage.  A wall on the corner of the house broke apart as Pinkerton was laying down in bed reading.

"I am so glad there a rock wall here and a fence. It helped me, it slowed down the bus. If not, it would have hit the whole house. Maybe I am not alive now."

The driver of the SUV is being described as a male in his thirties. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tour bus had no passengers. Police arrested the driver of the bus in connection with negligent homicide. He was in custody at HPD's main cell block Monday night.
