KALIHI (KHNL) - A small Kalihi neighborhood buzzes with activity as Honolulu police move in for a drug raid. KHNL News 8's Minna Sugimoto is there as officers take down a suspected ice dealer.
The suspected drug house is tucked away on a narrow lane in Kalihi, but neighbors say drug users know just where to find it.
"We've seen them on the street," Jackie Burke, neighbor, said. "And we noticed that, we were told that they put a sticker on the pole telling us what time and how much."
The stickers long-time resident Jackie Burke is referring to are located at the entrance to Kaauwai Place. In response to the community's complaints, police launched an undercover investigation.
"We made what's called, again, the CI buys, which is private citizens buying drugs from her," Sgt. John Kauwenaole, Honolulu Police Department, said. "And then this is the result."
Now armed with a search warrant, officers raid the unit.
"There were like five of these vans, and then fully dressed in their armor, and it looked really scary," Burke said. "It's really scary to have it in your neighborhood."
Police arrest 35-year-old Delia Pantaleon on suspicion of drug offenses.
"We found some pipes with residue inside," Kauwenaole said.
Burke hopes this is the first step in getting her neighborhood back.
"It was always safe, you know. There wasn't any trouble," she said. "When they came, it was just a strange energy that came into the neighborhood."
