Condition of Injured Solo Bike Officer Improves

H-1 Freeway, Oahu (KHNL) - The condition of a seriously injured Honolulu Police officer has improved. Saturday morning traffic investigators say the officer is now in guarded condition.

The solo bike officer crashed on the H-1 Freeway Friday afternoon while en route to an accident scene.  He was transported to the Queens Medical Center in serious condiiton.

The crash occurred on the H-1 freeway, near the Middle Street off-ramp.

The motorcycle officer apparently had his lights and siren on when the crash occurred.

Police say the officer swerved to miss a truck that was trying to get out the way, and that's when his bike went down.

An HPD spokesman says the injured officer has been with the department for five years.

The H-1 offramps to both Dillingham and Middle Streets were closed for nearly two hours while police investigated and cleaned-up the crash scene.
