WAIKIKI (KHNL) - A man is in the hospital in critical condition, after an early-morning stabbing in Waikiki.

The drama unfolded at the corner of Kalakaua Avenue and Ena Road at about 3:45am Friday. Police say a 23-year-old man suffered cuts and stab wounds to his face, arms, chest and legs.

Several people witnessed the incident. They told investigators the suspect fled the scene in a taxi.

Officers located 26-year-old Russell Griffiths, and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.

"I heard some noise and I looked out my window," Tom Brower, Waikiki resident, said. "I live next door to the Wave, and saw that the police had blocked off the streets. We're always concerned because we walk the streets just like, you know, the suspect and the victim."

The stabbing left the sidewalk, at the entrance to Waikiki, stained with blood. A worker spent the morning cleaning it up.

The suspect has not been charged. He's locked up at the main police cellblock.
