Teaching Without Borders

There is a remarkable organization called Teachers Without Borders, and a group of Hawaii teachers has been doing its part to spread the aloha as part of this international concern. 28 teachers from Hawaii have traveled to South Africa over the past five years, conducting workshops for hundreds of South African teachers and thousands of South African students.

After 30-hours of travel to get there, Punahou teacher Yunus Peer, a native of South Africa , and his local Ohana of teachers annually help to upgrade the skills of villagers and teachers in rural schools. A little bit of Hawaii , a bit of love, and a bunch of the basics- pencils, paper, and computers- goes a long way from here to there, to be sure.

But it costs money to get there, literally- and you can support the cause and learn more about this great project, which is expanding to rural China this year, by going to the website – www.twbglobal.org to see what you can do. Help to make the big old world a little smaller and a little smarter. Think about it…
