HONOLULU (KHNL) - He has 30 convictions on his criminal record. Now, Paul Lincoln is accused of going to a playground and sexually assaulting a child.
Officers arrested Lincoln at the Beretania Community Park Wednesday night.
Not only does the 56-year-old have numerous prior convictions, he's scheduled to go to trial next month on a charge of indecent exposure, relating to a case in Waikiki earlier this year.
A playground for kids. A playground for sexual predators.
"I don't think we can ever say that any park or any playground is too safe for our kids," Capt. Frank Fujii, Honolulu Police Department, said.
56-year-old Paul Lincoln is charged with third-degree sex assault and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. Investigators say the convicted felon fondled an eight-year-old girl, as she was playing with other children on the playground.
"He was observed assaulting the juvenile by a police officer, who was actually taking his chow," Fujii said. "The officer just happened to be in the park taking his meal, and made the observation."
Police say the suspect already has a pending case before the courts. Officers arrested him on Kaiulani Avenue in Waikiki in March, after he allegedly exposed himself and fondled himself in front of a group of people.
He has 30 convictions including ones for burglary, robbery, carrying a deadly weapon, domestic abuse, and theft.
Police say the girl in the playground case was not physically hurt.
"It's not necessarily the physical injuries that cause the most, that are the most harmful," Fujii said.
