(KHNL) - Police arrest a man in connection with last week's deadly car crash in Kunia. Four people died and 8 others were hurt, in the head-on collision.
On Thursday 46-year-old John Szemkow of Kapolei turned himself in. He's the same man police questioned the day of that accident. But back then he denied being at the scene of the fatal crash.
On April 24th, a driver heading towards Wahiawa on Kunia road, moved into the flow of on-coming traffic to overtake another vehicle.
That's when that car hit an on-coming pickup truck carrying farm workers, killing four of them. The driver of the car left the scene.
Although police arrested the suspect Thursday, they've not yet formally charged him or anyone else for causing the accident.
"The male was arrested for 5 counts for accidents involving death or serious bodily injury and 3 counts of accidents involving substantial bodily injury," said Capt. Frank Fujii, Honolulu Police Spokesman.
Since the accident, police have been asking witnesses to come forward to help them find the driver who caused the crash.
They won't say whether witnesses or those hurt in the accident have helped their investigation.
