KAILUA (KHNL) After eight years out of the public eye, Quentin Kawananakoa announced his candidacy for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district. Kawananakoa announced his intention to run for the seat currently held by Ed Case. Case is not seeking re-election to his seat in order to run for U.S. Senate. Kawananakoa kicked off his campaign with friends and supporters at his Kailua headquarters.
"Like me, many of you grieve over the loss of trust in our elected officials and the respect of our government. You hear it in the news every day, approval ratings for Congress are at 23%. That's the lowest in over a decade and many of us feel that we've had enough" said Kawananakoa.
In 1994, Kawananakoa won a seat in the state House of Representatives. Four years later, he challenged the congressional seat held by Neil Abercrombie, but Kawananakoa abruptly retired from political life after being hospitalized.
